Expedia is looking for an attorney to support the Commercial Strategy and Services (CSS) business unit for the Expedia Group. The CSS team negotiates contracts with, and provides commercial support for, the flights, rental cars, cruise, rail, travel insurance, and in-destination activities lines of business. In this role, you will actively participate in the development and execution of Expedia’s commercial strategy, advising on all aspects of contracting, conducting face-to-face negotiations with travel suppliers worldwide, developing internal standards and practices, monitoring developments in the regulatory landscape, coordinating responses to governmental inquiries, and supporting Expedia’s advocacy efforts. Many issues will involve multiple international jurisdictions, requiring the use and management of local counsel. In addition, this position will act as a consultative resource for business partners as they update Expedia’s products and services to respond to changing and legal requirements and an evolving commercial landscape as new suppliers arise, existing suppliers transform, or new technologies change the travel business.

What you’ll do:

  • Reviewing, drafting and negotiating a wide range of agreements (e.g., distribution and affiliation agreements, travel supply agreements, marketing agreements, and other business agreements).
  • Advising business leaders regarding website display, operations, and regulatory compliance.
  • Drafting terms and conditions for consumer facing ecommerce websites.
  • Advising clients on day-to-day contractual compliance issues and handling pre-litigation disputes.
  • Developing and implementing standardized legal processes within the organization.
  • Efficiently collaborating with outside legal counsel, including managing a legal budget

Who you are:

  • Legal experience with a top regional or national law firm or experience working in a fast-paced, in-house legal environment
  • Experience with complex commercial transactions, a strong background in commercial law, consumer protection and other regulatory issues
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, interpersonal skills and work ethic
  • Ability to work on a wide range of complex matters with minimal supervision
  • Track record of establishing strong working relationships with business clients and within the legal department/law firm
  • International experience and in-house experience is a plus
