This is exactly what we, the Lodging Data Tech (LDT) group in Expedia, do. Our mission is “transforming Expedia’s lodging data assets into Data Products that deliver intelligence and real-time insights for our customers.” Our work spans across a wide range of datasets like lodging booking, clickstream, and web-scraped data, across a diverse technology stack ranging from Teradata and MS SQL Server to Hadoop, Spark, Qubole and AWS. Our team creates data products to support a variety of applications which are used by hundreds of thousands of users including market managers, analysts and external hotel partners.

We are looking for a passionate, creative and innately curious technical product manager to join a new team in Chicago to build out and develop our unified data service which will power the data needs of all partner facing applications in the lodging line of business. In this role you will work with one of our data engineering teams as they deliver new insights, features, and enhancements.

What you’ll do with us:

  • Work with our engineering and product teams in an agile environment
  • Advocate and champion process improvements and agile project management techniques
  • Work with business partners to balance business and technical objectives, and manifest these as clear, stable priorities for the team.
  • Turn high-level project objectives into a comprehensive set of user stories by leading intensive, multi-discipline, teamwork sessions.
  • Effectively negotiate trade-offs between cost/schedule versus business benefit.

Who you are:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a technical discipline (Math, CS, Engineering) or equivalent work experience
  • 3+ years in a comparable role
  • 2+ years working on cloud platforms, preferably AWS
  • Familiarity with big data development, cloud product and real-time data concepts
  • High degree of competency on leading projects including: managing multiple workstreams, issue/risk identification, tracking dependencies and achievements while bringing all parties together through open communication.
  • Ability to creatively tackle meaningful business/technology problems that impact our partners.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English, active listening skills, and the ability to present technical information clearly to a diverse audience.
