Corporate Counsel

Corporate Counsel (Litigation) has responsibility in managing significant litigation for the Expedia Group companies worldwide.  The Expedia in-house litigation team consists of experienced attorneys and paralegals who handle lawsuits and other claims across a broad range of subject matter, including state and local tax litigation, consumer litigation, IP litigation, and general commercial litigation in both foreign and domestic jurisdictions. 

The position will manage litigation and discovery strategies, build processes and programs to effectively and efficiently manage the costs of defense, and advise the business groups on how to best mitigate risks in a competitive environment. This position will be based in Bellevue and report to the Senior Director - Litigation.

What you’ll do:

  • Oversee and manage outside counsel for a portfolio of litigation including, tax litigation, consumer litigation, and general commercial litigation.
  • Advise business groups and provide support for governmental and internal investigations.
  • Establish and maintain budgets for outside spend on legal counsel and vendors.
  • Conduct training on legal issues germane to the business.

Who you are:

  • Candidate must have a J.D. from an accredited law school and a minimum of seven years’ experience as a practicing lawyer.
  • Proven ability to communicate, excellent and decisive legal judgment at both a strategic and tactical level, pragmatism and problem solving ability.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and effectively navigate varied and fluid timelines and project goals.
  • Ability to take ownership of multiple legal matters and closely and effectively oversee work of outside counsel.
  • Candidates will preferably have had at least second chair responsibility for trials and/or arbitrations.
  • Prior experience in taking/defending depositions, responding to written discovery requests, overseeing document collections and productions and drafting and arguing dispositive motions preferred .
  • Prior experience with class action litigation, commercial arbitration and e-commerce businesses a plus.
  • In-house experience in a diverse multi-national company also a plus.
