Expedia is looking for a motivated, self-starter System Engineer II (Linux) to join our eCIS (Global Compute Operations) team. To be successful in this role, you will need to have experience managing geographically dispersed Linux systems for large scale enterprise production environments.


The eCIS team delivers integrated software and hardware solutions allowing all of Expedia’s employees and partners to perform their roles every single day and run the company. You would be a critical part of a growing team using the newest technology to improve our employee and partner experience across web and mobile platforms, empowering thousands of employees and partners to work and deliver every day. What you’ll do:

  • Administer, configure and troubleshoot Linux systems for Lab Environments; Staging Environments and; Production Environments
  • Identify and solve complex systems administration issues
  • Identify potential solutions to resolve and prevent future service interruptions
  • Responsible for performance analysis and corrections for Linux systems
  • Administer, configure and troubleshoot the different Linux access environment


Who you are:

  • Multi-year experience with building, configuring and troubleshooting Enterprise Linux/UNIX systems (physical and virtual)
  • Expertise in large scale systems management and monitoring systems including Chef or Puppet and Grafana
  • Use of monitoring and fixing utilities to effectively diagnose problems
  • Strong shell scripting abilities including Ruby, Python and experience automating tasks
  • Experience configuring and troubleshooting SAN/NAS for Linux/Unix, including Power Path, ECC and MPIO drivers
  • AWS Cloud Administration experience is a plus
  • Technical user documentation skills required
  • Highly self-motivated and directed
  • Keen attention to detail
  • Good analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Able to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment
  • Strong customer service orientation
  • Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment
  • Professional demeanor appropriate for mature enterprise
  • Experience with change control systems, particularly Service Now


Additionally

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IT, or equivalent work experience
  • Excellent knowledge and hands-on experience with various distributions of Linux, including Red Hat, Centos and SLES
  • Experience in data center operations required
  • Strong interpersonal, analytical, customer service skills
  • Solid communication skills
  • Willing to work in rotational nonstandard shifts (No night shift)
  • Willing to provide operational support during nonstandard working hours
