Analytics Manager

Expedia’s mission is to revolutionize travel through the power of technology and as such has become the No. 1 online travel company in the world.  Our analytics team in Chicago and Seattle is looking for an Analytics Manager to support and innovate on our online shopping or product experience (e.g., hotel, flight, loyalty, promotion areas) for such leading brands as Orbitz, Travelocity, and Wotif. The analytics group applies analytical techniques, test design methodology, and machine learning to help solve business problems and find growth opportunities. We are seeking an individual contributor with either an advanced degree or 2+ years’ work experience who is intellectually curious, has strong quantitative skills and has an aptitude for complex data manipulation, problem solving, and project management.   • Support for large-scale A/B or multivariate testing, which includes testing plan development, tracking and error checking, statistical back-end analysis, and recommendations
  • Conduct large-scale exploratory analysis (a.k.a. deep dives) into major questions
  • Create forecasting time series models, predictive models, or segmentations in R or Python as part of larger analytic inquiries
  • Service basic analytic requests, which includes pulling from dashboards, ad-hoc analysis and trend examinations
  • Identify ways to increase efficiency and productivity
  • Develop strategies and analytic plans to investigate or discover materially relevant business issues or opportunities--be an internal consultant to the business


  • Excellent SQL skills in Qubole, Hadoop, or Teradata
  • Proficient in R, Python or other computer languages (e.g., Visual Basic, Pascal, Java)
  • Experience with Web analytics preferred (e.g., Google Analytics or Omniture)
  • Exposure to analytics dashboards such Tableau, Omniture Discover/Workspace, or Qlikview
  • Experience with creating and applying a variety of statistical models (e.g., segmentation, regression, factor analysis, ARIMA, Random Forest, XG Boost)
  • Deep understanding of A/B testing
  • Experience with sourcing, cleaning, manipulating, and analyzing large volumes of data
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong consultative & relationship building skills with a proven track record of success
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Statistics, Mathematics, Predictive Modeling, Data Mining, Finance, Social Sciences, or Economics
  • 2+ years of related-work experience
