HomeAway’s Property Management Solutions team is looking for hardworking software engineers to use their analytical and problem solving skills, hands-on programming experience to build and deploy front end components, services and APIs on the cloud. Our goal is to build a world-class partner platform with exceptional user experience for our partners to list and manage their vacation rentals online. This spans front-end web development on React, Node, Java service endpoints, no-SQL datastore and event stream processing. We also support existing legacy enterprise software built on Microsoft components such as .NET Framework, .NET Core, SQL Server and IIS. Our teams are data driven, agile and focused on continuous delivery to quickly test and validate new features with our customers.

As a member of the team, you'll be a part of a global organization, and will be at the forefront of the Partner Experience building a product that is seen and used by property owners/managers that lists a property with HomeAway.

What You'll Do

Challenges you can work on:

As a highly competent engineer, you will develop scalable, fast, highly available and reliable micro-services that will process thousands of requests per second. Having access to real-time data and exposure to optimize with machine learning, you will understand customers’ needs before they do. Additionally, you will be developing features and APIs that will drive our business through real-time feedback loops in the cloud. Other responsibilities will include ownership of continuous integration and deployment (CI/CD) while utilizing Agile methodologies. As part of our continuous learning culture, you will have the opportunity to participate in exciting global company hackathons and various career building courses with co-workers of all levels of expertise.

  • You will contribute to scaling our services to more than 60k requests per second.
  • You develop fast, scalable, highly available, and reliable payment engines that will transact billions of dollars per year.
  • Use real time data to understand customers needs.
  • Develop features that will drive our business through real-time feedback loops.
  • Develop an intelligent service layer that will allow for in-session personalization based on user behavior and data
  • Scale our public API to allow other partners to use HomeAway services & experiences on third party sites
  • Simplify core booking and listing workflow to enhance our partner’s experience

Who You Are

Requirements:

  • BS or MS in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of professional, post college, software development experience with Java/C#, J2EE and relational databases.
  • Knowledge of front end development tools including javascript, React or Angular.js.
  • Proficiency in web services development, web and/or application containers, microservices architecture.
  • Ability to investigate and debug customer reported issues, provide optimal solutions to address them.
  • Knowledge of event driven architecture and tools like Kafka.
  • Experience in Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) tools, as well as working within an Agile team environment is preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills with ability to work well multi-functionally across multiple departments.
  • You love to teach and learn from your co-workers.

Responsibilities:

  • Commit to ruthlessly rewriting, refactoring, and perfecting code
  • Deploy to production daily using CI/CD and feature flags
  • Dedicated to delivering tested and optimized high performance code for a distributed SOA environment (our stack satisfies 10s of thousands of requests per second!)
  • Develop quality scalable, tested and reliable applications using industry best practices 
  • Work with QA, product management and operations in an agile environment
  • Create and maintain quality software using best-in-class tools: Git, Splunk, New Relic, Sonar and Jenkins
  • Participate in resolution of production issues and lead efforts toward solutions
