About the position:

We are looking for a Technical Specialist to join the EPS Data Technology and equip the teams with detailed technical requirements to drive consistent and high-quality data products and services.

As a Technical Specialist in Data, you will analyze complex technical problems and data integrations, providing technical solution specifications, maintaining a deep understanding of the underlying data architectural design.

The role is placed at the center of data Users and the Product, Analytics and  Data Technology teams, enabling forward-thinking and high data engineering standards.

You allow the everyone to focus on excellent technical solutions (design, development and operation at scale), product managers and business owners to look ahead (new and improved business processes, scale and extend operation to new areas and projects).

You are the facilitator, who has pristine cross-teams communication, tireless seeks agreements, raise standards on technology and product side. You promote end-user value on anything we do, super-conscious and avoiding the Iceberg paradox (too much development work not visible under the water).

Your Responsibilities

  • Evaluate requirements from business owners and product managers, while working closely within the development teams to translate into highly excellent technical requirements
  • You have experience capturing business requirements and turning them into detailed technical requirements.
  • You will ensure business requirements are met while ensuring scalability, reliability, security and performance of applications, services and system
  • You will help drive the technology capabilities and integrations for new and existing systems
  • You will collect data to actively support teams, identify and handle risks
  • You will conduct analysis across multiple technology systems and teams within EPS and wider Expedia Group.
  • Establishes success metrics post launch and applies takeaways to future work
  • You will work closely with engineering teams, product teams, UX designers and product partners to understand requirements, research and document technological solutions, and ensure successful delivery for our customers.
  • You will measure feature success post ship and feed insights back to the team and the business
  • You will align with business partners to balance business and technical objectives and manifest these as clear, stable priorities for the team
  • You will actively contribute to our team's culture of having fun together, adopting change, and delivery

Your Background

  • You have excellent technical or program management experience.
  • You have a real passion for solving complex software engineering problems in a dynamic environment.
  • Knowledge in computer fundamentals: data processing, run times, network, memory management, and data structures
  • You are familiar with agile development methodologies including Scrum and Kanban, and you'll thrive working in an agile environment
  • You bring good communication (oral/written) style that has proven successful in a highly matrixed environment
  • You have experience defining and working with scalable, resilient and secure systems
  • You have the ability to creatively pursue challenging business/technology problems.
  • You have familiarity with web-based product development including software development processes, n-tiered architectures, service oriented architectures, data organization, and performance optimization.
  • Good experience with SQL, Hadoop, and cloud based data technologies
  • Ability to identify, track, and monitor technical dependencies across systems
  • You can quickly find and resolve software problems from a stack trace or thread dump
  • You know Java or similar development experience
  • You show the capacity to work across teams to drive the implementation of new features as well as resolve operational issues.
  • Experience working with continuous integration and deployment of applications and services
  • You have BA/BS degree in technical field or related discipline such as information science or computer science preferred
