We're looking for an experienced Data Architect to drive EPS data products design, data pipelines, and data modeling.

As part of a larger Data Technology group, you will work directly with the Product team and Data Platform, Data Engineering, Business Intelligence teams, located across London (UK), Springfield (MO), Chicago (IL) and Bellevue (WA).

As a Data Architect, you will empower the data technology teams with the right level of information, driving design discussion. You bring a compound perspective to solutions that need to be coherent across EPS and Expedia Group.

You will focus on making all aspects of our data technology and business intelligence operation world-class, from gathering and improving our data-flows through to working on data modelling on existing and new data stores.


  • You will be the focal point on EPS data architectural direction, with a particular focus on data engineering and BI.
  • You will collaborate across Data Product, Architecture, and Engineering teams to provide technical guidance and architectural input into data product development.
  • You will bring a holistic enterprise view into new data system design.
  • You will implement high-quality data solutions, including design, development, and deployment of new functionality for various facets of our Streaming Platform (Kafka), Hadoop, and broader Data ecosystem.
  • Provide technical coaching and mentorship across data engineering teams, fostering an environment of innovation, collaboration, and inclusion on Cloud (AWS) and on-premise (Hadoop) solutions.
  • You will drive towards an architecture that optimizes flexibility, re-use, scalability, performance, and availability.
  • Provide strategic influence across groups, projects, and products to implement cost-effective technology solutions to solve complex business problems.
  • You will lead the data and system architecture discussions to identify a suitable quality solution to the business requirement.
  • Communicate and document solutions and design decisions, and guide the implementation.
  • Lead the research and evaluation of new technology solutions, providing recommendations and training to adopt the most appropriate technology for the given problem.
  • Drive the evolution of standards & design patterns with industry-standard methodologies and new technology to enhance productivity, quality, and system performance.
  • You will identify system, infrastructure, and project interdependencies and balance opposing demands to ensure the teams can deliver positive and timely project outcomes.


  • Demonstrate in-depth knowledge and expertise of the data Ecosystem, data modelling, and data warehousing.
  • You own a strong understanding of metadata, schemas, lineage, data quality.
  • Strong knowledge and experience designing and developing large scale data applications – using Kafka, Hadoop, Hive, AWS, Flink, Spark, EMR, Airflow.
  • You crafted streaming data solutions and you know-how to design events and to message that traverse these systems.
  • Proven experience on an architect role, designing high-scale relational and non-relational schemas.
  • You know various SQL and NoSQL database solutions – Teradata, Hive, Elasticsearch, AWS Aurora, Redshift, Snowflake, etc.
  • You have eCommerce knowledge and deep understanding of transactional data flows at scale.
  • You have experience in cloud services, particularly with an infrastructure-as-code approach.
  • Experience solving complex and large-scale data problems and successfully delivering large scale projects, as an individual and team leader
  • You are a committed teacher and someone who enjoys developing technical maturity across the company.
  • You demonstrate excellent communication, presentation, and influencing skills, with the ability to explain technical details and challenges to a wide variety of audiences (including executive leadership).
  • You know how to look at solutions in creative and unconventional ways, recognize opportunities to innovate and engage partners in vision and strategy.
  • You can thrive in a dynamic, collaborative, and fast-paced environment.
  • You kook for and take advantage of opportunities to learn new skills and develop strengths.
  • You show commitment to achieving challenging goals.
  • Undertake objective, critical analysis to draw accurate conclusions that recognize and manage contextual issues.
