Senior Java/Scala Developer

What You'll Do:
As a Backend Engineer, you will primarily be working on backend systems and APIs that enable Vrbo and Expedia Group affiliates to:

  • Access information about Holiday Rental properties, their availability, and pricing;
  • Support affiliates in making bookings against properties across the Vrbo and EG network;
  • Convert them into customers and measure the business metrics accurately
  • You will be building Java and possibly Scala-based web services and reactive systems that power the Vrbo and Expedia Group affiliate marketing systems and APIs to grow the company’s business. Above all, you will enjoy being a part of a high performing team with a passion for programming, a lover for travel and working with the best industry-wide talent in travel marketing.

Who You Are:

  • An expert Java Engineer who is keen to learn Scala;
  • Bachelor’s degree qualified or higher (Computer Science or Engineering is preferable);
  • Experienced with continuous delivery and integration tools like Git, and Jenkins;
  • Skilled in developing scalable, tested and reliable applications in a fast-paced distributed SOA environment;
  • Experienced in working within an agile software life cycle from concept to production and beyond with agile methodologies (including Kanban and Scrum);
  • Appreciative of and able to enhance a dynamic and close-knit software development team committed to shared learning through peer code reviews, HackAway, and innovation;
  • Experienced in finding creative and simple solutions to challenging problems, with a focus on getting things done and a test & learn culture;
  • Knowledgeable of TDD and BDD frameworks;
  • Experienced with large scale streaming systems like Kafka;
  • Experienced with different data storage mechanisms like Cassandra;
  • Familiar with REST and service-oriented architectures.
